Here's the funny thing about us: When we are in pain the LAST thing we every think of doing is looking through a different peephole out at the world...because we're busy being in pain. Hilarious and tragic all rolled into one.
Here are some common filters/peepholes/beliefs that may ring a bell inside you. Don't worry if they do, I'll show you what to do about that to make things much better:
I'm not good enough.
I don't deserve it.
People are nuts & scary.
Men are bad.
Women are bad.
I'm bad.
There's never enough.
I'm always broke.
I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I can't change--that's just who I am.
I'll never have __________ in this lifetime.
Nobody loves me.
I feel unsupported.
This list is nearly endless, but you get the idea. These are peepholes through which we view ourselves and the world. In the above list you'll notice that the ONLY possible outcome of holding those ideas (even one of them) is SUFFERING. No joy, no peace, no creativity, no growth, no happiness...1-800-Total-Drag!
Let's work with one item from the above list and I'll show you how to instantly change your world by changing peepholes. You won't change THE world, you'll change YOUR world which is much more wonderful, stress-free and relaxing. THE world can (and will) take care of itself. You take care of you.
Let's take "I'm bad" and play with it. Some folks spend ALL their waking and sleeping lives running this tape/program/peephole in their head and because they can't see the whole picture the ONLY proof that shows up in their lives matches this peephole. The only proof that can show up in any of our lives is the match for what peephole we're peering through--all proof to the contrary is eliminated by our mind so we literally can't see it.
Here's a simple, but challenging, fix. Spend one whole day being conscious of the "I'm bad" peephole and switch immediately to peering through one of the following peepholes: "I'm not so bad" or "I'm okay" or "I'm good". Peering through any/all of these for a single day is very tough and very worthwhile. You'll be taking a deliberate, conscious stance against the LIE that your mind has you sold on. That day will feel odd, but somehow exciting. The eventual goal is to spend more and more days looking through the better peepholes and allowing the Universe to send us proof of the better stuff we're made of.
Love to hear your comments and how you made out challenging the lie. Please comment below.
Good luck,
