My lovely mother told me as a child that "we spend most of our lives living in our head...so we might as well make it a comfortable place to live". Sage advice that I took to heart. Once we realize we can manipulate and change the experiences in our head (and heart!) so we suffer less, or not at all, the world becomes a loving, safe & beautiful place. I'd like to teach you another Point Of View magic trick so you can suffer less, too. Keep reading...
Pick your current "suffering scenario" that's bothering you and rate it 0 to 10. Ten is the worst feeling imaginable and zero is no problem. When we're done you'll re-rate it to notice any/all improvements you get from this process.
Play the scenario once in your head at warp speed (2 to 3 seconds) so you don't jump in and roll around in the feelings. Good. That's enough suffering.
Now you'll replay the scenario at warp speed again but turn the image you see upside down and watch it upside down all the way through to the end. Then stop.
Now you'll replay the scenario at warp speed again but turn everyone and everything in the mental movie you're watching inside out (whatever you imagine that to be!) and watch it all the way through to the end. Then stop.
Finally, you guessed it, do both (inside out & upside down) simultaneously at warp speed (don't linger!) all the way through to the end and stop. If you've followed along you'll have the wild experience in your head of what I like to call "scrambled brains". That's good. It's also the point of this process.
Now re-rate how you feel NOW (meaning in this moment) about the scenario on your 0 to 10 point scale. Neat, huh? If you like your improvement you're done. If you'd like more changes just rinse & repeat until you get where you'd like to be on the 0 to 10 scale.
I'm always asked, when I teach clients this process, what it will and won't work on. It's a wonderful question. I always tell folks to try it on everything they suffer with and find out for themselves where it won't work. I'd make the same recommendation to you, too. I'd love you to comment below so I can get feedback on your "scrambled brains" experience and how it led to reduced suffering.
Good luck & warmest wishes,
Rudy Hunter
