Your point of view can change things really quickly. Not your regular point of view--a different one. We all know this intellectually (or at least we've heard it's true) but we tend not to take advantage of a shift in perspective as much as we might. It's healing, quick & often quite surprising when we do. Keep reading and I'll teach you some point of view magic tricks you'll love...
Let's play...take a problem you're having that feels "icky" (a technical term!) and rate it 0 to 10. Ten is the worst you could feel and zero is no problem at all. Remember your starting number.
Take the image of your icky problem (don't worry about visualizing correctly. Do it incorrectly or make it up or just pretend. It'll still work just fine) and we're going to play with it. After you try each change re-rate your number about how you feel (the icky-ness-ity of it).
Blow the image up 10 times the size and then 10 times that size. Check your number.
Shrink the image down to the size of a fly and then down to a microdot. Check your number.
Push the image away from you out to the horizon. Check your number.
Pull the image tight up against your nose so it gets in your face. Check your number.
Take the image and flip it over so you expose the backside. Check your number.
Pull all the color out of the image. Check your number.
Blur all the edges of the image. Check your number.
Rest for now and notice that 1, 2 or even 3 of these manipulations made a BIG difference in the way you feel about the problem. Wanna have real fun? Pick the two strongest manipulations and do them at the same time, such as: push the image to the horizon and pull all the color out--simultaneously. Great fun!
These manipulations are from my old NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) training and they are very useful tools to have in your head, especially if you get haunted by bad memories. But...I can hear you asking..."that's fine, but what do I do when it comes back?"...and..."I can't spend my whole life doing this over and over again!"
Take a breath and let me counter the lies your mind wants to feed you that this is, a) too hard, b) too simple to work and c) won't last. Here's the truth (despite how hard your mind does not want you to surrender your suffering): it's easy, it works, it lasts if you do it a few times and it takes 1,000 times less energy than keeping your suffering locked in place. That means these tricks can give you ALL that energy back to you and relieve your suffering. Cool, huh?
If you want to play with this pick one memory/problem to work on at a time, do the manipulations each time the memory/problem re-asserts itself, get down to zero before you tackle another memory/problem.
Love to hear how this works for you. Please comment below.
Good luck,
