The World Teaches Us #BodyShame Every Single Day!
Here's some simple self help to begin undoing it:
Although, that certainly doesn't help. We are taught to dislike, disapprove of, dismiss,
override, ignore & hate our bodies. That's right, hate!
Here is a simple-seeming exercise you can take on to begin to free yourself from
the toxic teachings of the world about your precious body. It is a beginning.
Know that EVERY SINGLE DAY the World will try to un-do
your good work...so stay vigilant with this and you'll conquer it.
Take a big piece of paper and write at the top this statement:
I feel "not good enough" in my body for ____________________!
Now, without stopping [set a timer--it really helps!] take 5 full minutes and write
as many answers to fill in the blank as you can possibly come up with.
Make things up. Lie. Improvise. Just don't stop writing for 5 full minutes.
Rest and put the list aside. Come back to it later today or tomorrow and read through it.
Take a small piece of paper and make a list of ONLY the top 5 "most painfully-true"
responses you came up with on your little piece of paper.
This will be your DEFIANT LIST.
More on this in a moment.
Your responses on your Top 5 might include things like these:
I feel "not good enough" in my body for my wife/husband/lover/sexual partner.
I feel "not good enough" in my body for my family.
I feel "not good enough" in my body for my Instagram followers.
I feel "not good enough" in my body for strangers I pass on the street.
I feel "not good enough" in my body for my sports teammates.
I feel "not good enough" in my body for my Facebook friends.
I feel "not good enough" in my body for my work/business/boss/occupation.
...and so on...
You will, undoubtedly, come up with "MYSELF" as a fill in the blank.
Of course this is at the heart of the issue, but we're leaving YOU out of this for now.
There are other ways to tackle that. For now, you're just making your DEFIANT LIST of
no more than 5 answers, you not included.
If you live alone stick your DEFIANT LIST up on the bathroom mirror or fridge.
If you live with others [even one other person!] DO NOT POST YOUR LIST!
Keep it private but in a place you will look at least a couple of times a day such as
a novel, dresser drawer, journal, or anywhere else that is just for your eyes.
Here comes the MAGIC part of what to do with this list...and you'll be very surprised
by the "action" you take.
Do NOTHING other than read your list slowly to yourself at least 3 times a day.
Do this for 30 consecutive days with out missing a day. If you skip a day, start the
30 day count over again. That's it. When the month is done take a break for a week or so and begin the entire process again from the beginning WITH A TOTALLY FRESH LIST.
Why is this helpful and why will things change & improve?
The Mind loves to fight, control, prove, disagree and more. Each day, three times a day, you'll engage the contrary impetus of the Mind which will begin to fight, control, prove, disagree and more. This powerful writhing the Mind does about what you have written will begin
to set you free from your DEFIANT LIST which is really a list of entrenched lies.
Are we using "no force" and setting "the Mind against itself"?
You bet your sweet, lovely, beautiful body we are!
If you want even faster results add this challenging aspect to your month:
CATCH YOURSELF every time you verbally denigrate or insult yourself. Every time.
It's tougher than it sounds! Replace your hate-speech with love-speech every single time.
Your #BodyShame will begin to give ground and recede as it should.
